Building links between Teacher Education and NGOs: making the relationship work for Development Education

22nd February 2010, 9:30am – 4:15pm, St. Angela’s College, Lough Gill, Sligo.

Ubuntu Network Dialogue Days provide educators and Development Education practitioners with an opportunity to consider, discuss and debate various approaches to integrating Development Education knowledge, skills and attitudes into the teaching–learning experience. Dialogue Day 4 focused on bringing together NGOs and teacher educators interested and involved in DE to establish how collaboration and cooperation can support its integration into post primary Initial Teacher Education.

10:15 Development Education in Post Primary Initial Teacher Education: Teacher educators present reflections on their experiences of conducting Development Education action research project.

11:15 Development Education in the NGO sector: A snap shot of Development Education work carried out in Irish NGOs, including projects on resource development, design of transition year modules and global justice events.

12:10 Dialogue for Action: An opportunity to discuss the opportunities and challenges associated with building strategic links between NGOs and teacher education for the delivery of education for social and global justice.
