The thinking behind this seminar is to enhance capacity and study issues on use of film and media in development education and teaching for social justice.
Areas to consider:
Theoretical perspectives- theories on reading and interpreting film….
... issues of representation and power, ownership and control .. Problematising ‘Hollywood blockbusters’ exploration of development issues... Marginalisation, Othering and the ‘White Man’s Burden’ in film
Practical issues- use of film, classroom tips and techniques, film production and editing….
Developing a Post-film Critical Reflection exercise
The Ubuntu Network will be organsing a further event on Critial Media Literacy for Development Educators, inconjunction with IDEAS.More details will follow
